I know This Bloke…
We all know or at least like to think that we know somone who is, well, in the know with regard to certain things we want don’t we? Lots of us know a good builder, plumber etc and I think this may be part of the reason why we apply this sort of thinking to hobbies or pastimes. We take up golf, we listen to people whom we think know more than us. If we can afford it and we think we are worth it, we may get a coach but usually we end up just asking someone “how to go on”.
This happened to me when I started running and has been hanging over me ever since with very serious form defects and psychological prblems with how to run properly. I just felt like I didn’t know how to do it any more when I got the stress fracture. SODIron on Fetch posted this tonight and it rang very true for me…
”I recall when I first started running…a couple of the senior club runners commented that I was landing BOF and that if I didn’t change to heel striking I’d end up injured. Another helpful senior runner also told me that my stride was too short, and that I should lengthen it. So being a naïve newbie I duly went about converting myself to heel striking and lengthening my stride.
I tried this for around 7 months or so but ended up with lots of knee/patella pain, and lots of discomfort in the glutes…in the end I switched back to BOF because this felt natural to me, and wasn’t as painful. The problem I had though when running BOF was that I was too high up on my toes…I looked like I was wearing 2 inch invisible high heels when running. This overloaded my calves and I ended up with lots of achilles tendonitis problems.
Since discovering Pose running and starting to adopt the principles into my running I’m running injury free, and faster than ever…only three months ago I was out injured with my achilles, but since switching to pose I’m running faster than ever, with no niggles, and I’ve posted two PB’s (taking 3 minutes off my 10K time)…if that doesn’t make you want to run POSE then nothing will.”
What I am trying to say here is that however well meaning a mate in the running club might be or a neighbour or work colleague. Please, please do not let them influence the way you run negatively. If they mention running with long strides and heel striking, run away – with short quick steps, landing under GCM with a bent knee, naturally!

that’s funny, I love the last sentence! lol
