Not Out of the Woods Yet
No, not at all. In fact I was most definitely in the wood this morning with our dog Rosie and my wife. This wood is one of my favourite places to run and it is beautiful at the moment with the bluebells and everything. I can’t wait until Rosie is old enough to come running with me there!
As seen above I have been mostly walking the dog. I also did some skipping and a few Pose drills too. I have found that skipping in Pose is very good for teaching a fast pull. Just speed up the rope! I can do it but not for long. Aim is to be able to do it at 90 skips per minute indefinitely. By then I will have a very quick pull and legs of springy steel.
I also did some ankle curls with the 4kg weight – three sets of twenty for each side.
The peroneal tendon still is giving me periodic pain right on the insertion at the fifth metatarsal – I do hope it isn’t torn, there is no swelling and the foot looks normal. Every now and then it is a very pronounced pain that subsides very quickly and then goes away. I have no idea if this will heal in time for my District Double next week. It really will be a case of see what I am like on the day, which is very frustrating. I am having doubts about being able to run much at all until then.
How Not to Run
I would laugh if this were funny. This person is showing people how to run in a very innefficient and potentially injurious way. Obviously the woman thinks she is giving good advice. It is a sad comment on how people’s perceptions of how to run are completely distorted by ‘popular’ opinion. This is why the percentage of runners getting injured has increased over the last decade or so.
There is no such technique as running with “proper heel strike” and actually this is a large cause of injuries such as shin splints…
And the one that sums it all up – oh dear…
